Andy Murray - a better fister than Tim Henman

So, the Scot Andy Murray finally ran out of steam, and in the end Roger Federer won fairly easily, and disappointed the entire nation. It's Murray's misfortune to be playing at the same time as three of the greatest-ever tennis players, but despite that, he's the best sportsman we've produced for years - a feat he's achieved despite (and not because of) the stuffed suits and blinkered attitudes of the Lawn Tennis Association. I doubt whether he'll ever replace that nice Tim Henman in middle-England's affections, but he's a much better player than Henman and the collective ranks of third-rate nobodies who have swung their racquets for Britain over the years. You've only got to look at the way he fists the air - a sharp punch delivered with intent, compared to Tim's rather limp effort - to realise just how serious he is about his sport and about winning.

To drown our sorrows my wife and I are going to indulge ourselves with strawberries and cream, and a jug of Pimms.

Anyone for tennis?
