Primus Pastor

The words for this come from the Wakefield Second Shepherds' Pageant, a mystery play written towards the end of the fifteenth century. The anonymous author has produced what is essentially a piece of late-medieval rap poetry, with it's own tight, in-built rhythms and stanzas dripping with sarcasm and vitriol directed towards the rich ruling classes - sentiments which are as relevant today as they were five hundred years ago.
